In rural Pine Apple, Mississippi, Griffith (Dan Montgomery) lives in a stagnant environment of repressed emotions and dark family secrets in Tag Purvis' debut film Red Dirt . Raised by his Aunt Summer (Karen Black), he finds that he is now caring for her. Aunt Summer is trapped in her home by agoraphobia, and in her mind by secrets that constantly haunt her. He sets a course of change and decides to rent out a cottage on the property and make a break with his cousin and sometime lover Emily (Aleksa Palladino). Enter Lee (Walton Goggins), a stranger passing through on his way to bigger and better things. He rents the cottage, bringing with him an infectious passion for life and he ignites a dormant spark of homoerotic energy in Griffith.
